“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” a statement issued late Friday on the musician’s official website and social media channels read.

She added: “He lived his life as a song until his last breath and will be missed beyond measure by many.”

The constantly touring singer-songwriter, whose other hits include “Come Monday” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” was hospitalized earlier this year with an unspecified illness. In the process, the Island Escape performer canceled or postponed a number of concerts – a rare feat for Beauvais.

Jimmy Buffett was born on Christmas Day 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and became famous.
